"houston...we have dilation!"

we received some good news and some bad news this week. first, the good news...kris is officially 1cm dilated.

we also learned at monday's routine doctor visit that the baby is "breech." for my friends who know nothing about babies, that means that the head is not down which is the preferred positioning at this point in the pregnancy. as many of you know, "breech" babies typically result in a cesarean birth (c-section). c-sections have become more common within the birthing process and now account for over 25% of all births in the U.S. we are not as concerned about the surgery as much as we are disappointed to not experience a natural birth.

also, we have mentioned that the baby is measuring "two weeks big" and were anticipating that the baby may come early. we found out that the reason the baby has been measuring big is because it is breech. the anticipated due date is still april 25th ...not sure how much longer we can wait!

on tuesday, we ventured back to the doctor's for an ultrasound to determine the possibility of having the doctor "turn the baby" (procedure called "version"). we were excited to receive the adorable photos of baby arnheim (see below), but were disappointed to see that the umbilical cord is too close to the baby's neck to try to attempt a version.

so what does this mean?... we will most likely schedule a c-section in the upcoming weeks and pray that the baby turns on its own before the surgery/delivery. this is definitely a possibility so kris and i are remaining optimistic.

the following website has 17 ways to turn a breech baby (http://pregnancychildbirth.suite101.com/article.cfm/turning_a_breech_baby) ...we will see if these ol' wives' tails work.

honey bring me the flashlight, a clothespin, and go do some handstands!
